I grouped from Velius through Luclin, raided from Luclin through Prophecy of Ro, and solod/grouped during The Serpent's Spine - all on my Barbarian Shaman, Samanna. I was even an SOE Community Rep, ran the Shaman (and later also Paladin) class forums, and Sony flew me to San Diego a couple of times. My old Magelo from back then is https://eq.magelo.com/profile/1395819

It looks like various group-mob dropped Defiant gear will be the best possible option to L75, followed by a new set every 15 levels or so. I'll see when I get there.

Made a new Barbarian Shaman, Samannagain this past weekend. I grouped with Bobby, an old 'Chanter friend from back in the day who has been playing on and off ever since. It's good to have someone who can explain the changes to both the virtual word and the interface. I did some Tutorial quests, some Crescent Reach quests, and the first Plane of Knowledge non-visible armor quest (Blackburrow).

Having had problems in LDONs with wide agro mobs and wipes, I've decided to give in to my initial urge to run an Iksar Shadow Knight as well. Shojito made it L20 this week, and now I see why Ogres are awesome - I didn't realize how often tanks get stunned. However, I will continue with this family of Iksars, and probably just level the Magician to summon pet equipment. Also, WTF - SK pets don't accept weapons!?

I've FINALLY found some good info online for Shamans (spellsets, tactics, which spells and abilities to actually use), and I have decided to reboot a version of my old Reference Desk (with pages for new/returning players in general, and also some for the clases (SMH, SHD, NEC) that I will be playing. This will be a guide for getting UP TO current tier content, although who knows how long it will take me to get there at my new, casual-ish rate?

Got the SK to 52 in Velk's Lab; Shm and Nec are each 54. Will put all to 100% AA at 55 and group some with a RL friend, hopefully. Much fun!

Did some three-box-mercing and got to 60. Decided to stop at 60 and go 100% AAXP in CoD for a bit.

Was boxing at CoD entrance when this BST (anon) chatted me up. He totally twinked the SHD, and had great gear for the SHM too. Although most of it was raid gear and required level of 65, so now I'm 100% level XP to 65, and will go paid subs with autogrant AAs at that time. Presently doing Teek Daily quest in Drunder to get a nice belt for SHD, backs for SHM and NEC.

Wow, that gear made a huge difference on the SK. I was able to clear my way through Drunder, Fortress of Zek (Po Tactics?) without really worrying about anything. When it all went light blue I went back to Teek missions for L70 and got several sets of shoulders, back, and waist gear. The team got to 68. I was able to equip this (15 year old) raid gear with my unpaid accounts, so go me.

Got everyone to 70/71; thank GOD for the group To Panther spell, now it's one and done (about every 90 seconds). With this going, I don't even have time to do any DoTs; it's pull, ALT-TAB, Assist Key, ALT-TAB, Assist Key, ALT-TAB and make sure snare stuck before the mob dies from SK, Mercs (2x melee DPS), and three pets all proc on the mobs in The Hive.

I grab the mission x3, zone into The Hive, kill three shilikins in the water, kill two drachnids, kill the other three shilikins, then the other drachnid. Then head up the ramp, pop LotD, and take 2-5 mobs at a time.

Subscribed the SK and Shaman, but not the Necro. /autogrant for the win. These two toons each have many more AAs than the original, played-for-seven-years Samanna.

After talking to a fellow player about what quests that are doable now result in things that are valuable at L120, I decided to take Saturday night to just drag the team through the first several levels of the Serpent Seeker's Charm of Lore (all the ground spawns in CR, BM, and GM) and Wanderlust Guild Loadstone (exploring BM and GM) quests. I actually broke out the Mercs to take out that fairy queen in the NE of Goru`kar Mesa, but nothing else was much work at 71. The Charm & Aug together are a LOT better than that Kobold Skull Charms the team was still sporting.

At this point the SK's gear is all augmented with AC as a priority. The Shaman and Necro are just collecting augs for later gear.

I've made a Trader toon on the SK account to sell all the Defiant drops and Teek rewards that I don't need. I hope this will help pay for the Mercs, which are getting expensive. I also need to find out what to do to get the improved Mercs, but I guess that can wait until they become ineffective. Got the SS's Charm of Lore powered up through all the dropped items (except for the very last) and the quest items. Now it's time to hunt the mobs that drop the other upgrade pieces. And maybe more Teek missions.

This is a page for me to log EverQuest info as a returning player, having taken a 15-year hiatus from 2007 to 2022.

I grouped from Velius through Luclin, raided from Luclin through Prophecy of Ro, and solod/grouped during The Serpent's Spine - all on my Barbarian Shaman, Samanna. I was even an SOE Community Rep, ran the Shaman class forums, and Sony flew me to San Diego a couple of times.

Ding 13. Daily quests start at L20.

Oops, PL'd to L40, so I started a three-box pet group also on FV:

  • Samenna, Iksar Shaman
  • Saminna, Iksar Necromancer
  • Samonna, Dark Elf Magician

Ding 9 on the alts, about to head to Crescent Reach.

Got all three to level 51 over the holidays.

Starting LDONs, but all the info online about getting the Wayfarer's Stone is conflicing and inaccurate. I can get adventures easily, but I cannot seem to get the Adventurer's Stone or use the Magi.

I'm also confused about how to improve the mercenaries - I'm still using the ones from the tutorial. They do seem to be getting AAXP, though.

Having had problems in LDONs with wide agro mobs and wipes, I've decided to give in to my initial urge to run an Iksar Shadow Knight as well.
