What is faction?
In essence, faction is how much a specific group (faction) likes or dislikes you based on your Race/Class/Religion and what actions you have accomplished.
Every NPC/Monster has some sort of faction some can not be changed (Centaurs in South Karana), some are all by themselves (Lady Shae on FelGuard faction in Freeport Inn), and still others are part of a group of factions (Iksar Monks are on the Swifttail Faction).
Every player is considered to be on the faction of their guild (make an Iksar Monk you are a Swifttail), but Players are always indifferent to other Players. Faction is only relevant to NPC's.
Every NPC will view you favorably, angrily, or all points in between depending upon where you stand in regard to their faction. Example: Iksars are automatically hated by all the races, but are tolerated by some of the more shady/evil religions/classes. A Paladin of Freeport may be loved by the citizens of Freeport, yet hated by the Shadow Knights of Freeport.

Why do I need to be concerned with faction?
1st -- The obvious answer is - if your faction is bad enough, NPCs will attack you on site. Really annoying if you are at a merchant selling and a wandering guard is KOS (Kill on Sight) to you and whacks you dead, before you even realize you are being attacked.
2nd -- If you want to buy/sell with merchants, you will have to raise your faction if you are dubious, since merchants will not buy and sell unless you are viewed Apprehensive or better. (NOTE: Sneak Skill makes you automatically Indifferent to a merchant when you are behind them).
3rd - Better faction will make for better prices when buying/selling from a merchant (but Charisma has a greater affect in this area).
4th - Many quests require you to be at a certain faction before you can do these Quests. (My Iksar Monk had to kill enough Orcs in Commonlands to go from "Ready to attack" to "Amiable" before I could do the Human Monk Belt Quests and I had to get to Indifferent before they would even train me).
5th - Having many places where you can bank is a good thing, but being able to reach the bank may require you to cross the path of many other factions.

Each faction step up to a specific faction equals a 1 grade increase to how NPCs on that faction view you. The same works for losing faction standing with a group. The last column of numbers are roughly the amount of faction hits it takes to go up or down a level. These numbers are based on "Old parsing data" and have been subject to disagreement. Use them as a guide and not the end all be all.

NOTE: Creatures that con Threateningly or Ready to Attack - may attack you if you get too close to them (or within their agro range) and Merchants who are Dubious to you will not sell to you.

As I have stated, I tested the range from the point I got to dubious from threatening through to the point I got to warmly with Dranik Loyalists, and to within 3 trash kills at most, my numbers are accurate.

The method used was to kill generic low-level trash mobs in Dranik's Scar to raise Dranik Loyalists faction. I stationed a low level alt (lvl 47 at the time) that had Tibor target on the hillside above where I was pulling, and grouped him in to get some of the XP from the kills. By using /assist altname and /consider, I was able to check my faction with Tibor (and hence Dranik Loyalists) after virtually every kill.

I cannot confirm the precise upper and lower limits of the range, since I have not tracked any faction from max KOS to max Ally, but the Warmly->Ally range is correct to within about 40 - I did not check so regularly once I hit warmly.

Also At both Ally and Ready to Attack you can continue taking faction hits to a point (roughly that point at 2500 faction hits from 0) until it reaches the point "where you faction can no longer get any better/worse. If you reach this point you are max/lowest faction standing with that group, but you still remain Ally/Ready to Attack.

Is there a point to continue to raising my faction when I hit the low tier of Ally to max Ally?
With certain quests you have to be at the higher end of a faction level, before you will be offered it. When I first reached Amiable with the human monks they wouldn't offer me the human monk belt quest. I killed many more orcs, went back and was still Amiable yet now they offered me the quests for the belt. I needed to be High Amiable to be offered the quest, which lends itself to the theory that quests require the Player to have reached a specific point value in the faction standing. So then +200 Amiable on the above faction list is different than +500 Amiable.

How can I raise/lower my faction rating with a group?
Generally, killing NPCs or completing quests will raise/lower factions, but you must always be aware that similar creatures may offer different faction adjustments depending upon what zone you are in.

Example 1: Killing an Orc in East Commonlands will lower your faction with the Deathfist Orcs (Those orcs in and around the Commonlands) But raise your faction with the Warriors of Rivervale, the Paladins of Freeport, the Monks of Freeport, and the Citizens of the Commonlands. Killing the Orcs in Crushbone, will alter your faction with a variety of Elf factions in the Faydark zones. Also killing the orcs in HighPassHold will alter factions related to that zone. Not all orcs are allied to or against the same set of factions.

Also, two NPCs have the name Opal Darkbriar: Head of the Casters Guild in W Freeport and Head of the Evil Clerics in E Freeport. Yet the faction of Opal Darkbriar refers only to the Evil Cleric (The caster being on Arcane Scientist faction).

Example 2: If I turn in (for Quest) an Orc Scalp (off a Shralok Orc or Crushbone Orc) to Captain Ashlan in HighPassHold I will get Faction Increases with 5 Various factions (Guards and Merchants of HPH, Freeport Militia, CorruptQeynosGuards, and the Head of HighHoldKeep) with no faction decreases.

Depending upon what the quest does, or for which group the quest is for, may determine which factions are raised or lowered. Do a quest for one group that is hated by another group and your faction standing may go up for the quest giver and down for the opposing faction. Same for killing creatures: The Deathfist orcs give good factions with those groups that are in direct contention with it (monks, paladins, citizens and Halfling Warriors).

Be aware that some factions can not be raised once lowered. Kill a fairy in Faydark and you will begin to ruin your faction for all of those fairies with no known way to raise it back up.

How do I know point wise where I am on the faction table?
There really isn't any guaranteed way to know, but if you do a quest or kill a mob to the point that your faction changes, you can be pretty sure you are at the lowest tier of that faction.

The only you can find you standing is to "con" a creature. From a distance, target an NPC and hit the 'c' key on your keyboard. This will return a message in a color. The color refers to the relative danger/level of the mob in order of difficulty: Red (most deadly), Yellow, White (even to your level, but generally too dangerous to solo), Dark Blue, Light Blue (easy, and will still give experience), Green (easiest and will not give experience). The message will mention the faction standing (Ally, Indifferent, Ready to Attack, etc…)

Note: not all quests or mobs give the same faction change.

Killing a Kobold in the Warrens gives you about a 1 point towards raising your factions with the guards of Erud. Killing a named Kobold (Cook, Prince, King) gives you about a 5 point increase with Guards of Erud. Killing the Heretic Elial Brooks in Toxxulia Forest gives you about a 20 point faction increase with the Casters of Erud; however, killing the Heretic Elial Brooks lowers your faction with the Heretics by about 25 points. Heretic faction can be fixed by slaughtering many Kobolds, but it drops faster than the caster faction raises. Generally bad faction changes are larger than good faction changes.

Also, the Inert Potion Quest in Erud Palace raises five hard to raise factions, but not equally. So when questing or killing and many different factions raise/lower -they may not raise all the same rate and generally will lower factions faster than raising them.

Are there faction caps?
Yes, depending upon your Race/Class/Religion will depend upon how high you can go with other factions. My Iksar Monk (Evil Race/neutral class/evil religion) with most "Good" factions can get up to Kindly and then get no better, with most "Evil" group I can get up to Warmly before I can get no better, and with many "neutral" groups I can get up to ally. There are exceptions, but too many to be concerned with here.

There is also a sort of faction cap going the other way with all groups on a "Merchant" faction. (Remember, not all folks who sell items are on a "Merchant" faction). The faction will cap at "Dubious", but the point standing will continue to drop until you hit the negative 2500 point value.

Example: My Iksar Monk cons "Ready to Attack" to the banker of Kelethin, but dubious to the Merchants. They are both on the same faction. I raise my Merchant faction enough points and find that I am now Dubious to the Banker yet I am still Dubious to the Merchants. That is because of the downside cap to merchant faction.

Here's what I did for my set of current factions. Now, what I have posted is not the chronological order of things I have done and it doesn't encompass every quest I have done, but it does tell of the best/easiest quests to raise factions and I put them into what I believe to be the easiest order for these quests.

First off, I would strongly recommend that you not try any of this until you hit 20th level. You can get by at lower levels, but you will need to group often, being around 20th will make you more self sufficient.

Most of my info I got from http://everquest.allakhazam.com/ This site should become your best friend. Learn to use it and it will fill in any gaps that I may leave out. That said, here is what I did and why.

I started by going to HighPassHold. Get into groups fighting the orcs there or just let groups know that you will make a faction hit, but let them do all the killing, and do whatever you can to get your hands on every orc scalp (This also applies to gnoll scalps). Killing the orcs gives you good faction with several groups- most importantly - with the HighPassGuards. When you are dubious to the guards (You can test this by running to the area where the volunteer and captain Ashlan hang out and con them). When dubious you can sneak up behind the Captain, you will be indifferent if you sneak, and you can turn in the orc scalps for faction with many groups, most importantly - The Freeport Militia & the CorruptQeynosGuards. Do this quest until you are dubious to the militia, which is about 600+ orc/gnoll scalps. To check this run back to Western Commonlands and con the tollbooth guards - they are on the Freeport Militia faction. On a side note, I am told, but have not confirmed this myself, that the orcs in crushbone drop scalps that can be used for this quest and they drop the scalps more frequently. So when you spend time over there, hang on to those scalps to return and do this quest more.

The gnolls are on the other side of HighPassHold, but they spawn less frequently than the orcs, are higher level than the orcs, and drop less scalps. The captain over there, Orbien, accepts the gnoll scalps like Ashland does the orc scalps. The kobolds give better faction hits than the orcs (3 positve instead of two). There are also goblin ears you can turn in to a captain in HighPassKeep, but you need to be higher level to group there or buy them and they tend to sell for 1-5pp per ear - very expensive. Before you are dubious to the Freeport militia you will most definitely top out with the HighPassGuards and probably be amiable to the citizens. Now you are non-KOS to every group native to HighPassHold/Keep. (The bard is not native, but you will fix that faction later.)

Once you are dubious to Freeport Militia go back to WC and do what you did in HighPassHold to the orcs in the one camp in WC. You can do the same in either camp in EC, but they are more often camped by people than the WC one. Collect as many Deathfist belts as you can. Killing the orcs gives you good faction with the Paladins of N.Freeport, which will allow you to bank, as well as the Monk guild in Freeport and on a side note - the Halfling Guards. You will turn in the belts to Captain Hazran of the Freeport militia in Freeport West. This will lower the clerics and paladins, but raise the militia and rouges. (You will kill more orcs than turn in belts so the paladin faction will overall raise up - nothing to do for the cleric faction at this time, but that is not a problem you will correct this faction later on).

Do this quest until you are dubious to the rogues - you can check by conning the two rogues outside of the monk guild. I believe one is named Rebby. To do any of the monk quests you need to be high amiable to the monks in the guild and that means slaughtering more orcs. Now, slide into the sewers and find the Necromancer Xelha. If you are KOS to her a wolf form will take care of that. What you need to do is collect as many bone chips as you can. She will take four at a time for one faction hit, but it will not take too many to get out of the dubious range. She gives you Positive faction with Opal Dark Briar and Dismal Rage (Followers of Innoruuk) and neg faction with Knights of Truth (Paladins, which means you go kill more orcs to fix). Try to max the Dismal Rage faction now as you will really hurt it later on and it is easier to repair if you never become KOS in the first place.

Next, I went to Crushbone and slaughtered orcs until my faction could get no worse with them. (Save any scalps and use them for the Scalp Quest in HighHoldPass.) Through a lot of trial and error I was able to avoid the aggros in Kelethin and check my faction with Faydarks Champions (Rangers). I was dubious. I then went back to Freeport West. At this point you have a couple of options for the same quest results. In the Hogcallers Inn, behind the Milita Guardhouse, on the second floor there is an elf (Lady Shea), a dwarf (Pandos), and in a room on the right a Half Elf (Jyle). Pandos and Jyle are both on Faydarks Champions faction. Lady Shea is on the Feyguard Faction and as far as I can tell - she is the only character on that faction. To raise faction with Feyguard, give her either white wine or red wine (Cannot remember which). After a couple hundred wines, she will easily be ameiable to you, but if you are KOS to her you will have to sneak behind her to do the quest. If you are high enough level, she will not aggro (was fine for my 24th monk) and you can just ignore her.

You can give the Dwarf a muffin and he will increase your factions with the Soldiers of Tunare, Clerics of Tunare, Faydarks Champions, and King Tearis Thex. This is a cheap way to increase these factions (one muffin = 2cp), but I recommend giving Jyle a Small Lantern for the same faction. The lanterns cost a little more (about 7 sp), but he gives you Wooden Shards (Treant Wood). Save the Wooden Shards for faction with Erudite Merchants, Erudite High Council, and High Guard of Erudin. I collected 900 wooden shards. He will also give you a Wooden Heart, but it is for the Raincallers bow quest and can be dumped.

At this point, get a port to Toxx, no druids in that circle to KOS you and carefully make your way north towards Erud. When you get to where you can see the path to the Erud Zone do not get to close to the guards or they will kill you. Make your way west to the first Merchant Hut within sight of the entrance to Erud. In the hut is a merchant named Emil, sneak behind him and give him the Wooden Shards (give him 4 at a time.) After about 390 I topped out my Merchant Faction (BIG NOTE: Bankers = Merchant faction), but it took another 640 or so to top out my Erud High Council Faction. (I actually did this quest much later on, so I was already maxed faction with the Guards, but this quest fits perfectly right here.) I just gave a new player the remaining wooden shards and let them benefit from turning them in. On a side note there is an Erudite in South Qeynos (Danaria Hollin) that will be a real nuisance and attack you (she will try to charm you). She is either on the Merchant faction or the HighCouncil faction.

Okay, once you have maxed those 3 factions, head west until you hit the water and then head south following the beach until you hit a dock. By the dock in Toxxulia spawns a Heretic by the name of Elial Brook. He is a five-minute spawn and I killed him 75 times. He gives faction with the guards, the three mage type guilds of Erud, and the Deepwater Kights (one of the two Paladin/Cleric Guilds in Erud). He will lower your faction with the Heretics though.

He gives great faction hits (Killing him once is like gaining 20 faction hits). I was amiable to the 3 mage type guilds in Erud from killing him alone. Erud is easy to maneuver in, there will be some KOS people, but they are stationary not wanderers like in Qeynos. You can easily avoid them or run by them to the teleporters, they will aggro, but not follow. Get yourself into the palace, you should have nobody KOS to you except one High-Elf Enchanter in the Enchanters Guild (She is on the High -Elf Enchanters faction, not the Erudite Enchanters faction). On the third floor of the palace is Toresian Fhabe. Set up a hotkey that says "I wish to aid Toresian" and he will give you an Inert Potion. Bring that Potion to the Vials of Vitality, on the first floor of the castle, and give it to Slansin. You will get faction with Coalition of Trade Folk Ill, Coalition of Tradefolk, Carson McCabe, Corrupt Qeynos Guards and The Freeport Militia and no minuses, like the scalp quest in HighPassHold. This is your chance to increase your faction with the corrupt Qeynos guards as well as the rogues of Freeport. This is also your best chance to raise your faction with the merchants of Freeport.

Now the remaining faction in the city - the PeaceKeepers. To get in good with these guys you need to have your baking skill up to at least 126. You need to make Chocolate Covered Marr Cherries(trivail 126 or so). The recipe is 3 Marr Cherries (foraged in Ocean of Tears or as I did and am still doing - bought in the Bazaar) and 1 Winter Chocolate (Brownie Parts and 2 Frosting - trivail 96) in a mixing bowl. Take your Chocolate Covered Marr Cherries to Miranda in the Kejek fort(Stonebrunt). She will give you some +5 Wis, -1 Sta pouches of catnip for each chocolate covered cherry, but more importantly you gain faction with Kejek Village and PeaceKeepers. Make sure to sneak behind her, because you cannot do this quest at Dubious. I did the quest 363 times with no change to the Kejek Village faction, but it put me into the Dubious range with the PeaceKeepers. Now you are non-KOS to every group native to Erud and the Palace.

Since you are already on Odus, go back to Toxxulia Forest and head south until you reach Paineel. Get yourself over and into the Warrens. The two skeleton guards in the newbie area will not agro you as long as you do not stop to talk to them. Try to get bound right outside the Warrens and once in the warrens, kill the kobolds until you can stand it no longer. You will gain faction with the Erud Guards and the Heretics (Guard faction should be maxed at this time, but it is the Heretic faction you want to fix). You can check your faction by periodically conning the two skeleton guards in the Paineel newbie area. Kill the kobolds until you are ameiable to the Heretics (All of Paineel is on the Heretic faction). This is going to be a lot of Kobolds, just a side note - the named kobolds give a better faction hit than the regular ones. Kill the Named ones every chance you can. Once you are ameiable to the newbie guards you can get the key to Paineel. Now you are non-KOS to the only group native to Paineel - Heretics.

Instead of factioning for a specific city you should consider factioning for the League of Antonica Bards at this point. (There is at least one Bard in every good city and it is easier if you do not have to avoid them). I learned of a Quest for the League of Antonica Bards right in East Freeport. The only quests I could find for these guys were simply mail runs or one quest in qeynos that involves talking to a bard to start it and delivering something to another bard (Similar to the mail quests). By accident I found another Iksar who did some similar things as I did, but posted her info to www.monkly-business.com. She did some things I wouldn't have done, but then I did things many others would not have bothered with. She was trying to gain faction with the Paladins and went to a bar called the Grub and Grog Tavern in East Freeport. In this tavern is a bard named Fabian. If you can get a wolf form, you will become dubious to the bard. Sneak behind him and give him 2 gold. You will gain faction with the League of Antonica Bards, Paladins in N. Freeport, Qeynos Guards, and lose faction with the Ring of Scale and Mayong Mistmoor. (I had no plans to get good faction with the vampiric ruler of Mistmoor, but I may some day with the Ring of scale.) I turned in about 200 gold doing this quest and my wolf form ran out. He never tunrs around, so I was able to continue doing the quest. After 300 gp, I unsneak, conned him and Feign Deathed right away. Turns out I was dubious to him. I turned in another 200 gp (Total turned in - 500gp) and was still still dubious.

This quest is good if you are low level, but I would recommend traveling to the zone of Mistmoor. I found that killing the creatures there added faction with the League of Antonica Bards as well as the Ring of Scale. This is a higher-level zone, but if you can get into a group the xp is good and you can faction at the same time in your upper 20's right through to 40th level. In fact I went from 34-38th soloing in this zone and I increased my faction with the League of Antonica Bards from Dubious to Warmly. I killed over 1000 of the residents of Mistmoor Castle. Now you are non-KOS to the Antonica Bards (Do not confuse these guys with the wood-elf bards).

It is time to finish factioning with the rest of Freeport. This begins with the milk quest for Mojax, much like the muffin quest for Pandos. Mojax sits near the lake in WC and is a member of the Paladins of Freeport, you need to be ameiable to him, so kill more orcs if you need to. When you are amiable, buy about 400 milks and begin turning them in to him. This will lower Freeport militia and Dismal Rage, do not let them drop below dubious or it will become a lot harder to repair. The reason for turning milk into him is to raise the Steel Warriors faction (Warrior guild of Freeport and Qeynos) and the Priests of Marr faction (Freeport Clerics).
You also get Knights of Truth faction, but this has to be ameiable to begin with, so is of little issue. At the very least you need to get to Dubious with the Steel Warriors as the Qeynos "Gnoll Fang" quest will require you to enter the Qeynos Warriors Guild. There is a high level Cleric trainer in the hut closest to the West Freeport Zone, so being in the clerics good graces can save you trouble from her when in East Commonlands.

Since you are already in Western Commonlands, slide over to Eastern Commonlands when you are ready to head to Qeynos. In the set of huts nearest the zone line is an erudite who sells unlimited rat ears and bat wings. Buy 400 Rat Ears. Take the ears to Qeynos Hills, since you are heading this way anyway, and find the guy named Rephas. He should be standing on the shore of the only lake in the zone. 400 ears maxed my faction with the Arcane Scientists (Mages of freeport) as well as maxing my Knights of Truth faction (Paladins) that I had lowered when I raised my Dismal Rage faction. It will lower your Opal Dark Briar and Freeport Militia faction though. You can go back and fix Freeport militia faction doing Inert Potion Quest and if you want to go turn in bone chips to Xelha to raise your Opal Dark Briar faction. Now you are non-KOS to every group native to Freeport.

Now move to BlackBurrow. I killed gnolls until I could get no worse with them and then I killed 1000 more (Very much akin to your time in the Warrens). I collected every gnoll tooth, no drop, and ended up with about 400 teeth. I was amiable to the Qeynos Guards, the druids of Surefall and Karanas (Important for when you get ports), merchants of Qeynos (BANKER), JaggedPineFolk of the new zone Jagge Pine, and the monks of Qeynos. Walking around Qeynos is very tricky, I died many times - there are many wanderers that are KOS to you and nothing you can do about it at this point, but FD and avoid them. In S.Qeynos is the Warriors guild and you can turn in the fangs to Captain Tillin who is a Qeynos Guard. This is why you do the milk quest so the Warrior guild members will not slaughter you before you reach the good captain.

Unfortunately this will lower your faction with the Corrupt Qeynos Guards, they should have been dubious or better from turning in Orc/Gnoll scalps in HighPassHold and from completeing the Inert Potion Quest, but will become quickly KOS to you by turning in the Gnoll Fangs. If you are 24+, like I was, they all all con green to you and not agro though, so it is a moot point. The only Red Corrupt Qeynos Guard is by the monk guild - so be careful when you go that way. He killed me 3 times. Do not fight the corrupt Qeynos Guards, as the regular Qeynos guards will attack you as well. Now here's a clicker for you, for every fang you turn in to Tillin, you will get a moonstone. (Make sure to have lots of free space and only turn in fangs if you have room in your inventory for the moonstones - they do not stack). You will take the moonstones to Fish's Ale (a pub down by the docks) and go into the back room. There you'll find a bartender named Mcneal Jocub. Give him the stones for more faction - importantly, faction with the Clerics and Paladins of Qeynos. Eventually you should be dubious to the Clerics and Paladins. Also, always check the merchants outside of the Warriors Guild - many people do not know the moonstones offer faction, so they just sell them. You can buy them and turn them in for more faction.

Even with all the work I died over 10 times in Qeynos and decided I had to take a break. I moved over to Misty Thicket. Here I cycled through the 3 goblin camps either slaughtering the goblins, or making faction hits if a camp was taken. You should already be ameiable or better to the Halfling guards from all the orcs you killed earlier in the commonlands. The only real reason for this quest is for the Storm Reapers faction (Druids of Rivervale). There is one druid on the other side of the wall in the Misty Thicket. Her name is Ella Foodcrafter (Or something very close to that). Go just beyond the wall and Feign Death right on the road. She will eventually run by and you target her. After she runs off stand up and con her. Be very careful - she is perma SoWed and has a direct damage spell of about 600 points. I almost died when I first met her. Do not go looking for her, FD right inside the wall on the road. She will eventually come to you.

When I got to dubious with her, I went and bought about 600+ bandages. (Fairly expensive, but necessary if you want to bank in Rivervale.) In the far South East of the Misty Thicket is a hut. In the hut are two Halflings - Honeybuggers I believe are their last name. They will be KOS to you, but they are low teens and will not agro. Entering the buildings requires you to duck and wiggle back and forth - not easy, but doable. When inside sneak up to the Male Halfling - you will have to figure out how to stand so he is Indifferent to you. Do not get right behind him or you will hang half in and half out of the building. There is a wandering Halfling rogue of the mid to upper 20's who will attack if you ass is hanging on the outside of the building. Doing the bandage quest improves much the same factions as killing goblins, but instead of the druids - they offer faction with the rogues of Rivervale. This quest will lower your faction with the Coalition of Trade Folk Ill - but if you did the Inert Potion Quest enough you will still be ameiable to the Freeport Rogues. This will allow you to enter Rivervale and walk cautiously. If your faction isn't dubious or better with the rogues a whole mess of them will swarm out of the guild near the bank and attack you. Also there is a bard to the North (Stationary, but KOS if you haven't been to Mistmoor) and Clerics right outside the southern Exit into Kitikor Forest. Do not go near there. The Priests of Mischief have only one quest for faction and it is given by a cleric inside the guild. Now you are non-KOS to every group native to Rivervale except the Clerics (Priests of Mischief).

My next trip took me to Steamfont and the Minotaur Caves. I killed Minotaurs until I was amiable with the guards (Also amiable to the Warriors and the King.) King Ak'anon = all the little clockworks that wander Ak'Anon and you need to be amiable to the Gemchoppers to do the Series C Clockwork quest. Go to Manik Compolten in the "Gemchoppers Hall" or warriors guild and say "I am a new warrior" He will give you a card which you can take to 1 of four "Series C" clockworks for faction with several groups, but most importantly - the Eldrich Collective (Mages). You can take a card to each of the four clockworks and complete the quest, but for faction purposes it is easier to just take the card to the clockwork on the little island over and over again. I did this quest for far too long (Much like the "Inert Potion" quest this one is repetitive and it takes about 90 seconds to do once. I did this quest over 600 times, but finally got to dubious with the mages. This set of quests will ruin your faction with the Necromancers of Ak'Anon, but in this case you cannot have it both ways (As all Necro quests will hurt the Eldrich Collective). You may be able to quest to raise the Necromancers and not the Mages, but I can only write that which I have done.

I later found that in the jail in Erudin Palace is a gnome called Shondo Billin. Get him 1 Vasty Deep Ale (Can be purchased at Bluehawks in Erudin) for faction with King Ak'anon, Gemchoppers, and the Merchants of Ak'anon (Worse with the Necros). One stack cost me over 12pp, but after 25 stacks I was ameiable to all the merchants (and the Banker is on Merchant Faction). While Expensive, this is a real time saver and can cut out the whole Minotaur Cave section of Ak'anon factioning. Also, this is the only bank I can currently use on Faydwer, because of increasing the merchant faction. Do not do this quest if you want to be in good with the Necromancers.

I have not yet found a way to get in good with the Deep Muses (Clerics/Paladins), but will post if I find a way. Now you are non-KOS to every group native to Ak'Anon except the Necromancers/Shadow Knights & Clerics/Paladins.

I found some new quests back in Qeynos and decided to finish my Qeynos factioning. Start by going to East Commonlands. Get 4 backpacks. Fill two of the backpacks with bat wings from the Erud Vendor in the huts near the West Commonland zone line, fill one backpack with snakescales from Pardor the Blessed in the Hut nearest West Freeport, and then visit Boomba the Big and Ping Fuzzlecutter (Gnome in the WFP newbie area) and fill your last backpack with Rat Whiskers. These last two may or may not have 8 stacks of Rat Whiskers, depends upon how many people have sold them Rat Whiskers - if not scour every merchant or kill enough rats to have 8 stacks of the whiskers. Once you have that, get to South Qeynos and get a wolf form (this can be harder than finding the Rat Whiskers).

In South Qeynos, behind the big Casters building is a man named Unsar Koldhagon. Give him 2 Bat wings, 1 SnakeScale, and 1 Rat Whisker and he will give you good faction with: Order of Three & Guards of Qeynos; neg with Opal Dark Briar & Blood Sabers. After 160 times (or your 4 backpacks) you will be at dubious with them. Do this quest as often as you like until you get to the faction status you want to be. This makes walking around South Qeynos much easier as there are 2 very high level magic users that have personally killed me many times. Be careful when walking around the Mage's area behind the bank as there are a couple of people that are not on the Order of Three Faction that will still be KOS to you. Do not worry about the bloodsaber faction, as this will be fixed in the next couple of paragraphs, nor Opal Dark Briar as you can fix that one with the Bone Chip to Xelia Quest.

If you give 4 Honey Meads to the Dwarf Trumpy Irontoe he will raise faction with KaneBayle, CircleofUnseenHands, and CorruptQeynosGuards, lowers QeynosGuards and Merchants of Qeynos (which can easily be repaired by yet another trip to BlackBurrow - save those Gnoll fangs. (I used them later to faction in Halas and will explain later in this document). This is when you repair your Qeynos Factions. Also, in the Qeynos Sewers lie the Bloodsabers. If you do the Crate of Arrows (Evil) version you get many good/evil factions with no real loss.

Crate of arrows start in North Qeynos, near the gates is Guard Weleth. Say, "I will take the crate." And if you are Indifferent or better he will hand you a crate. Take the crate to S. Qeynos via behind Crows. This route takes you near the Bards guild, so make sure your League of Antonica Bard faction is okay. Go around to the back of the Bards Guild and take that entryway into the plaza. As you pass through the entryway, hug the right hand wall untill you come to a door on your left. Inside is a Merchant named Nesiff. Give him the crate for the following faction adjustments: +Coalition of Tradefolk, Merchants of Qeynos, Guards of Qeynos, and Antonious Bayle, -Faction w/ CircleofUnseenHands. He also gives you a Parchment to return to Guard Weleth. Instead, retrace your steps to N. Qeynos and on the way to the Monks guild you should see Lieutenant Dagarok (The only Red CorruptQeynosGuard). Give the Parchment to him for the following: + CorruptQeynosGuards, KaneBayle CircleofUnseenHands, and BloodSabers, -Faction to Guards of Qeynos. (Guards of Qeynos and CircleofUnseenHands cancel each other out with this quest). Best of all, each time you run this quest you get near to 20 faction hits. I ran it 25-30 times and got through all of dubious with BloodSabers without hurting any faction (Not to mention getting in good with both KaneBayle and Antonious Bayle).

I did the Honey mead quest until I topped out my CircleofUnseenHands and the Crate of Arrows (Evil Version) until I was Ameiable to the Bloodsabers/KaneBayle. In doing this I ended up making 4 trips to Black Burrow to repair my Merchant and Qeynos Guard Factions. Now you are non-KOS to every group native to Qeynos.

Now for all the gnoll fangs I collected while repairing my Qeynos Guard Faction, I prepared for my trip to Halas. This is dangerous and required the help of a friend who could Invisible me. (In this case I had a high level druid help me). I first had him Invis me, so I could get into the city, and then before I took the ferry at the end of the entrance tunnel I had him bind me as well. I then went into the city and made my way to the Pit of Doom (Warrior's Guild) and found Lysbith McNaff. If you hand her 3 fangs you get faction with the Merchants, Warriors, and Shaman of Halas, as well as the Steel Warriors (Freeport and Qeynos Warrior's). I found if I snuck up behind her, neither she nor any of the stationary warriors in and around the guild will agro you. But there is a wandering Warrior who walks around the guild and stops at the North, East, west and South parts of the Pit. He will agro you and will cause every other warrior to agro you. (I died 3 times and had to Feign Death many times before I learned what was causing the agro. If you are behind Lysbith, then wait for the walker to stop at the upper left of the pit from where you are standing. When he begins to move his circuit you can hand in the fangs, until he reaches the upper right from where you are. Then after he moves again, you can do it again until he reaches the upper left and so on. I just dropped all the torches and food she handed me during the times I had to FD. An easier way is what my Druid friend proposed. If you are behind Lysbith and the walker is to the upper right, my Druid friend nuked him and pulled him and everything along the way to the zone line. (Lysbith is too far away to gain agro when nuked). This gave me about 2 minutes of worry free time to turn in the fangs. Needless to say this quest did kill me 3 times and came close many other times, but after turning in the 600+ gnoll fangs I collected I was Kindly Considered by the Guards of Halas. But still Dubious to the Merchants and Threateningly to the Shaman.

To get in good with the Shaman and Merchants you can continue getting gnoll fangs, but I was out and out sick of BlackBurrow by that time. In a shop called Mac's Kilts is a merchant named Cindl. Give her a Polar Bear skin (off polar bears in the newbie area south of Halas) or 2 Orc Wrath Wristbands for a piece of armor (sell it back to her) and the same factions as turning in Gnoll Fangs. However, this quest raises Shaman Faction up a lot faster. A few backpacks full (the skins do not stack) and you will be non-KOS to the shaman in no time. Now you are non-KOS to all save the Rogues (Rogues of the White Rose) and Banker is a Rogue.

I decided to go back and get in good with the Dwarves of Kaladim. I was already non-KOS to the Storm Guard (Warriors of Kaladim) from my earlier slaughter of Orcs in Crushbone, but I had purposely avoided factioning further for this city as they are directly against the Ogre Warriors. To faction for Oggok it would be easier to be non-KOS to the Ogre Warriors from the get go. I finally found the way to do this. It begins with camping the two Bandit camps in ButcherBlock Mountains. At one camp there are 6 bandits (the Peg Leg bandit camp) and the other has 4 bandits although only 3 of them offer faction hits. Gundl for some reason is on Beta Neutral faction and therefore offers no pos/neg faction hits. Now both camps are on roughly a 10-12 minute spawn and you need to kill about 500 of these bandits to become Dubious to Miner's Guild 628 (Rogues of Kaladim). By the Peg Leg camp there are two Guards that are lower level than all the other guards in ButcherBlock, but are also KOS to you. They are on the Miner's Guild 628 faction and you can check your progress with them. This will take a while, but gaining faction this way also increase's your Storm Guard Faction further and lowers only the ButcherBlock Bandit faction.

Once you are in good with the Miner's Guild 628 faction you have two options:

Option 1: Faction for Kaladim and forget about Oggok. This requires you to go back to Crushbone and gather every orc belt and Orc Legionairre Shoulder Pad to turn in to Canloe Nusbeck in the warrior's guild. Faction's gained: Kazon StormHammer (King), Merchants of Kaladim (Banker), Miner's Guild 249 (Paladins), and Storguard (Warriors) - Neg Faction: Craknek Warriors (Oger Warriors). Once non-KOS to the Paladins you can skirt the Clerics guild and turn in 4 Bone Chips to Gunlok Jure for the following faction gains: Kazon StormHammer, Miner's Guild 249, and ClericsofUnderfoot (Dwarven Clerics) with no negative faction adjustments. At this point you will be non-KOS to every group native to Kaladim

Option 2: If you want to get into the Ogre City you have to skip doing the orc belt and shoulderpad quests at this time, collect at least 2 backpacks full of stacks of bone chips, and get invisibled and make your way to Gunlok Jure in the Paladin's guilds. Once there you will need to be able to sneak once behind him, so you will go from KOS to Indifferent. Then as quickly as you can hand him all your bone chips 4 at a time. For every set of 4 bone chips he will give you an item that you can just drop. If you have Feign Death, then FD in between turning in the quest items will make things easier for you. This gives you time to dump the items he hands you. It also keeps him from turning around and seeing through your sneak. The dwarf across from him is a merchant, so non-KOS and all the guards that wander are StormGuard, non-KOS at this point. So he is the only threat to you once you are visible. After turning in 40 stacks of bone chips (5 Backpacks full) I could get no better with the ClericsofUnderfoot and Kazin StormHammer and I was ally to the Miner's Guild 249 (but not maxed). At this point you are non-KOS to every group save the Merchants of Kaladim (since merchants never get worse than Dubious only the Banker will be KOS to you, but you have not ruined your faction with Craknek Warriors).

As you probably noticed I opted for option 2. I went back to Crushbone and killed every Female Dwarf Slave and the 2 Dwarven Smiths. This will hurt your dwarven factions, but will help your Craknek Warrior faction. I killed 258 Dwarves. This took about 2 weeks real time. I was able to check my faction with the Ogre in Butcher Block named Cornflunk (he is Craknek Warrior) and I am now dubious to them. I then returned to Kaladim and did the bone chip quest to fix all but the Merchant of Kaladim faction. Any bone chips I had left over I went into Felwithe and turned them in to the Cleric Guild master. This raised my Anti-mage faction (the other two were maxed from turning in muffins).

While I was doing this I also camped the slavers and turned in every elf Key (18 - Wood Elf Male, 19 - Wood Elf Female, 20 - High Elf Male, 21 - High Elf Female) to the correct elf. I had to sneak behind the High Elf slaves or else they refused to be set free. Destroy Key 17 (Female Dwarf) and if you like you can turn in key 16 to the male dwarf. He does not hurt/help the Craknek Warrior faction. I killed him when I didn't have key 16 in hopes of getting the female dwarf to spawn. In that time I turned in 65 Wood Elf Keys and 40 High Elf Keys. For the most part that equals 65 Merchant of Kelethin and Felwithe faction (Note Banker is on this faction) and 40 Keepers of the Art faction (Mages of Felwithe). I also killed enough orcs to get to dubious with the Emerald Warriors (Warriors of Kelethin). Next I decided it was time to bank in Kelethin and Felwithe. I went to Erud Harbor and camped the 3 Sharks. They are on a 6-minute spawn time and there are a couple of wandering sharks also. I collected as much Shark Meat as I could get. (12 stacks = 240-shark meat). This took about a month of off and on real time camping.

Once I collected all of that I went back to Kelethin and outside the Emerald Warrior Guild to the right stands a Wood Elf warrior (I cannot remember his name now). Target him and say "I will hunt for meat" and he will give you a 4-slot bag. Put one shark meat in each slot, combine and return for Pos faction with the Emerald Warriors, Kelethin Merchants, and Merchants of Felwithe. Negative faction with Indigo Brotherhood. (This will bottom out if it hasn't already from killing orcs.) 240-shark meat = 60 quest completions. With the 65 hits from turning in the slaver's keys I found that I was max faction with the Emerald Warriors, but still Dubious to the two Merchant factions. This is okay though, because I have become Dubious to the Bankers as well. You are now non-KOS to every group native to Kelethin except the Rogues and Bards. You are now Non-KOS to every group native to Felwithe except the casters.

I plan to pursue factioning for Oggok in the near future as well as shoring up some of the "loose" factions out there that I haven't yet returned to correct: Casters of Felwithe, Bards/Rogues of Kelethin, and Shaman of Halas, as well as, looking into Rangers of Surefall Glade.
